CIUSSI CARLO
Carlo Ciussi (Udine 1930 - Ivi 2012) makes the first artistic performs in the studio of Fred Pittino (1943). Between 1945 and 1949 he attended art school in Venice and he studied with De Luigi and Maioli. The contact with the Venetian environment approached him at the artistic experiences of Vedova, Santomaso, Pizzinato, Viani. In 1948 he also able to visit the Biennale and he remains impressed by the novelty of the works contained therein.
In 1952 he participates in the International Biennial of Young of Gorizia, while in 1953 he had his first solo exhibition at the Palazzo Barberini in Rome. In 1954 he participates in the city of Pordenone painting prize and in 1955 the Seventh Quadrennial of Italian Contemporary Art at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. Between 1957 and 1959 he is at the Coffee Formentini Monfalcone, the Sunflower Gallery in Udine (1958 and 1959), and The Fireplace Gallery of Pordenone.
In the fifties Carlo Ciussi worked at the printing house of his father and meanwhile the influences exerted on him by the painters and by the arrows of the Venetian environment. The first artistic experiments of Carlo Ciussi are related to cubist and expressionist. In 1960, some still lifes represent a turning point in his work, gradually ferried from figuration to abstraction. In the early sixties he also assiduously attended the critic Giuseppe Marchiori and Afro. He was influenced by Afro at the beginning. At theend of the informal season, Carlo Ciussi has already developed its own language that leads him to interpret the painting medium in an ever more personal. In this period he takes some solo exhibitions of paintings and drawings and also he participates in some awards (he won the Marches of 1963). In 1964 he exhibited at the XXXII Venice Biennale, invited by Afro who was a member of the Subcommittee for the Visual Arts of the Biennale. He exhibits with Mario Nigro (in turn invited by Lucio Fontana) in a personal room in which the two artists exhibit five works each.
There are numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including the XLII Venice Biennale in 1986. He lives and works in Udine.
In 2011 the city of Udine, at the Casa Colombatti Cavazzini, dedicates the exibition: "Carlo Ciussi 1964-2011" from 21/05 to 02/10/2011.
Carlo Ciussi is at the outside Italian Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale 2011, Friuli Venezia Giulia region, at Magazzino 26 of Porto Vecchio in Trieste.
