PENZO PIO
Pio Penzo (Schio 25/04/1926 – Venice 07/18/1988) "... Among woods and meadows, in one of the last houses of the town of Schio, i was born in the spring of 1926, fifth of ten children of a modest family of the Piane ... "
So Don Pio Penzo said of himself, a Salesian priest and artist, telling the beginning of his life. Artistically he was trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice with Mario De Luigi. After the first exposure as a painter he has also etched. As an engraver he has set up hundreds of personal and he has been invited to many group exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, his works are in museums and private collections of major European countries. Among the many awards received in Italy and abroad including the Palme d'Or for his recording of the Triptych Art World 1986-1987 (Vancouver, Toronto, Seychelles). Pio Penzo spent the last decades of his life in Venice, at the island of San Giorgio, where he taught graphics at the Cini Foundation Institute of San Giorgio.
As an engraver he has set up a hundred exhibitions and many collectives, especially abroad. Among the most important: the Venice Biennale, exhibitions with the Italian Institute of Culture in the Middle East, with UNESCO, the European Centre of Cultural Initiatives, with the Association "Incisori Veneti", with Artists represented in the Veneto Region. He has exhibited and has works in museums and private collections of the main European countries besides Italy. His works are exhibited permanently at the European Centre for Cultural Initiatives at Polverosi Palace in Rome. International Awards abroad: London, Paris, Marseille, Bamberg, Krakow, Monaco, Malta, Strasbourg, Seville, Bonn, Montreal and Tokyo. It was often the one of the masters Graphics XXXIII tribute to Olympic Games Los Angeles in 1984. In the same year there was an important anthology in Vicenza, in the Church of San James. He was awarded among the protagonists of the World, during Mexico 86 World Championships.
Latest exhibitions: Anthology of S. Vidal, Venice. Personal at Centre European Polverosi Palace in Rome, the Foundation Cini with the folder, including Egypt 37 etchings, at Delfino of Rovereto (Tn) in 1987, at De Tuoni Arte in Treviso. In the same year he exposed to the folder of Morocco and the Stockholm Motor Show Spring in Paris. On february 2008: Schio anthology (Vi) at Palazzo Fogazzaro "20 years after his death." On december 2009 and 2010: Arcugnano (VI) "The Venetian landscape", “Soul inicore” drawings and etchings from the collection of Enzo Mastella.
Vittorio Sgarbi wrote: "Penzo, where the Graphic School of Cini Foundation has dedicated two large monographs, Catalogue Raisoneč, almost his entire graphic work, has always held to declare a self-taught, which means not independent but free to choose their sources without having to obey team orders, school discipline, programmatic trends ...
