From the "Report of Chancellor made on July 14 1949, during the second anniversary of the foundation of the Amici de La Valigia – by this we have the real and unique history of the origin of the Order." Art. 2 of the rule.
On 13 May 1947, at approximately 23, two painters such as Sara Angelo and Giusto Benvenuti plus a sculptor Bertazzolo Otello, Venetians, in the tavern of "Aurelio", located in S. Luca, animated discussed, (as animated it is the discussion) - about the "Black Market". Mr. Aurelio, holder of the tavern, supporting some of his arguments pulled out of a box a rickety suitcase, abandoned in her room by someone. During the discussion suddenly to end the debate, one of the painters, taken from anger, with powerful soccer rammed the poor ruins outside of the space. This was the spark: the others two came out to and they kicked the suitcase until the Cafe "Manin". It was exactly the 02.00 of 14 May 1947.
A good coffee and a cognac were a great thing for the three Venetian artists. After that one of the three artists had the inspiration: "Boys what do you think about painting it? .. and said, we can sell itl. " Mirage! To sell itl! To make money money! ...
Now we had the agreement and Sara painted as Benvenuti as the sculptor Bertazzolo. (These are the first three).
A man looking the three decided to buy the suitcase with 3 beers, but with the intervention of mr. Cimone they decided in a negative way going out the Cafè.
Without goal for the city, they arrived at Calle dei Fabbri ... there was a light inside of the restaurant "Gorizia." They thought: why don’t we leave the suitcase here? Then mr. Tiziano Alzetta brought the suitcase with “doman ghe ne parlemo”.
The next day the three thought that the suitcase was not good to sell and with the advice of Tiziano decided to invite other artists to paint it. At the end after the first three: Italo Bassani, Aldo Bergamini, Felice Carena, Mario Carraro, Attilio Carrer Battaglia, Guido Carrer, Carlo Cherubini, Giuseppe Cherubini, Carlo Dalla Zorza, Eugenio From Venice, Mariano Fortuny, Dino Martens, Neno Mori, Marco Novati, Nino Parenti, Alessandro Pomi, Cosimo Private, Francesco Bolla Scarpa, Scarpa Luigi Croce, Fioravante Seibezzi, Armando Tonello, Mario Varagnolo, Rino Villa, Renzo Zanutto. The sum is 27.
The suitcase (now Valigia) was source of admiration and a man, alias Domenico Varagnolo suggested to write, as historical memory this: "Idibus magiis years gratiae MCMXLVII - 2 X 12 + 3 - artifices venetis - Bacchus aggressis - hincó impedimentum pinserunt et ibi Secretum poserunt - Artium admiratoribus Fortunae sint - Atropo, quibus exorcismis vellet in saeculis Secretum capere stamen vitae 'rumpet'."
Translated: " In the same suitcase year of grace 1947 - 2 X 12 + 3 = 27 - Done with the Art of the Veneto – managed by Bacchus - From this moment the Suitcase was painted here and it was deposited a secret - The fortune is the ability for those who admire - Atropo, to which they extort with exorcisms, breaks the secrecy over the centuries with the thread of life goat. "
A first meeting of the 27 made this project. It was wrotten a rule: it was founded "The Order of the Friends of La Valigia". Brothers Alzetta made available an exclusive room of the restaurant for an exhibition of art. He was appointed a board composed of three "Great Guardian", a "Little Guardian", four "advisers", a "treasurer" and a "Chancellor". "Priori" were nominated the three artists who found la Valigia (Sara Angelo, Giusto Benvenuti ed Otello Bertazzolo). Three BigGuardians were appointed for life, in the names of Carena, G. Cherubini and Fortuny. It was the first Guardian Piccolo (perhaps the first chosen precisely because small) the Varagnolo which, in the second year, followed by the sculptor Scarpabolla and it was "Chancellor" that "Tizio" (Domenico Varagnolo) which had launched the idea.
It was organized a first exhibition, which was inaugurated on June 14 in 1947, with the most important Venice citizens of the period. For example Silvio Branzi of the newspaper “Il Gazzettino” wrote an interesting article: "If this occasion serves to unite everybody and to erase forever our disputes and our disagreement, the "Valigia" would have done really a kind of miracle …”
... In this shor period La Valigia organized art exhibitions of the 27 painters and others He took part collectively to five exhibitions offsite. It elarged also seventy thousand lire in charitable works and it aided some Italian artist. It organized, with excellent results, an exhibition for the artists of Venice Syndicate. This is the truth of "La Valigia", built for a joke and by the good humor of the artists, now it takes place in life and in the glory of the Venetian and Italian art.

... The order of Suitcase was then dissolved. At some point it began to move by force of inertia. But La Valigia and the big picture with the self-portraits, photographs of this beautiful expression of art of Venetian painters, are at Hotel Gorizia ...
