PLESSI FABRIZIO
Fabrizio Plessi was born in Reggio Emilia in 1940. He studied art at the High School and the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice where he later will be professor of painting. Since 1968 the central theme of his painting is water present in installations, films, videotapes and performances.
His works were exhibited at the experimental hall of the Venice Biennale in 1970 and subsequent Biennial of 1972. Following Plessi presented his works in public spaces like Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara (1975), the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus of Monaco (1978), the Internationaal Cultureel Centrum, Antwerp (1980) and the Palais de Beaux-Arts Brussels (1975 and 1983). In 1978 he was invited to the Venice Biennale in the photography section for the special exhibition The images provoke.
In 1980 he entered the Venice Film Festival with the film Liquid Movie, winning the Prize "Città di Milano". In 1981 he was invited to the Venice Film Festival with Underwater, a French production for the first time the electronic medium as a medium of artistic expression is thus admitted to a biennial film. In 1982 his full video work was presented at the Centre Pompidou, Beaubourg, Paris. In 1991 Rome II incorporates a large installation for the Museum of Modern Art, Stiftung Ludwig in Vienna. In 1993, LCD, commissioned and exhibited at the Cafe Florian in Venice for the Biennale. For the famous "live" concert by Luciano Pavarotti in Central Park in New York, Plessi creates the settings electronics. From 1990 to 2000 he was professor of "humanizing technology" to Kunsthochschule Cologne.
In 2000 for "Bologna 2000" created a large theatrical installation called Shipwreck Painting Palace Accursio. Made for the Italian Government in the pavilion of the Expo in Hanover universal vertical Sea, which is considered the most monumental sculpture technology ever built. The steel frame contains a 44-meter high giant screen LED blue light that simulates a wave electronics in motion.
In 2001 by the City of Venice, to coincide with the paint of the Art Biennale in early June, in preparation for the Museo Correr wide and unprecedented review of his latest works on the theme of water and fire accompanied by a giant installation in Piazza San Marco designed for the occasion.
In 2003 at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Plessi with the artistic coordination of Robert Wilson and Philip Glass's music, created under the fourteenth-century Loggia dei Markets and a spectacular new giant installation of fire with 10 boats upside down so that they move over the heads of visitors every twisting logic perception. For the entrance to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice Plessi an unpublished study: Digital Fall, one of the sculptures the most technologically advanced in the world, with a constant air-conditioning system and an ultra wide-screen flat.
In 2005 'LI invited to the Biennale di Venezia, special project for the Biennale in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. To realize this opportunity Plessi opposite the entrance to a new version of the Biennale di Mare Vertical emerging from the lagoon for 44 meters. In 2011, the twelfth participation at the 54th edition of La Biennale di Venezia: "Mariverticali" at Padiglione Venezia, that Arzanà Navi and Louis Vuitton return to the city after a consistent and thorough restoration. Six black steel boats emerge from the darkness while on video screens of the keels are evoked sounds, currents and waves of symbolic seas.
On 2012 from 21/04 to 23/09 at the Galleria d'Arte Contini of San Marco in Venice an exibition of drawings, projects and installations "Mariverticali", already performed in the "Venice Pavilion" exhibition of 54° International Art Biennale in Venice in 2011 and projects "Llaut Light" always exibited on 2011 at the Palace of Palma de Mallorca Llotja. For the occasion, the artist has created three "Digital Boat" video sculptures unedited presented in the exhibition.
From 27/10 to 13/01/2013 the exhibition "Fabrizio Plessi. Il flusso della Ragione" in Padua at the Palazzo della Ragione.
From 21/06/2013 Fabrizio Plessi videos, drawings and installations with the great work carried out for the Expo 2000 in Hanover are displayed at the Brenner Pass near the site of the customs between Italy and Austria at the new Plessi Museum inside an innovative architectural structure.
