TITO ETTORE
Ettore Tito (Castellammare di Stabia (Na) 1859 - Venezia 1941). Initially student in Naples of Dutch van Haanen, he settled with his family in Venice, studying with pompeo Molmenti.
The work that begins in 1887, Pescheria old in Venice, inspired decidedly by Favretti, collecting a considerable success and it was purchased by the government for gnam Rome. Tito participate after almost all editions of the event, with individual exhibitions in 1912 and 1922. At first works, which in the wake of Favretto portray realistic in style and technical virtuosity scenes environment popular Venetian (The teller, 1886, Girl in the mirror, 1895), follows the production couple, based on eclecticism whose source of inspiration is the sumptuous Venetian painting of the sixteenth century and especially of the eighteenth century.
For landscapes, especially marine (On the lagoon, 1901, Chioggia after the rain), are added allegorical scenes from mythological vague populated by nymphs, cupids and venus (Birth of Venus, 1903, Baccanale, 1906, Love and Parche).
The artist developed a technique by colour bright and vibrant brushwork denouncing the suggestion of painting of success of Zorn, Besnard, Sorolla, Sargent. Its precious portraits of women (amazzone, 1906, Women) have contacts with painting boldiniana. Tito is also cimenta in large allegorical and religious frescoes, like those in Villa Berlinghieri in Rome and those in the Church of the Scalzi in Venice (1933), which are to replace the work tiepolesca destroyed in 1915.
The staff of 1919 at the Gallery Pesaro Milan will finally establishes success. In 1929 Tito, who already taught to the Institute of Fine Arts, was appointed Academic of Italy. In 1932, the XVIII Venice Biennale that devotes a retrospective exhibition, the old Tito exposes l’eterna storia, Quasimodo, la stalla, Alto Adige, Canefora. At the Exhibition of Forty years of the Biennale (1935) are fifteen his works, including the important allegorical round of 1910 depicting the triumph of Venice. It was also a sculptor towards classical tradition.
