GALLIANI OMAR
Omar Galliani (Montecchio Emilia 1954) began his artistic career at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. The charcoal and pencil are among his best endeavors to explore a contemporary design. He currently teaches painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara.
Looking at his works you feel light-darkness dualism of light and shade, leaving the images appear and dissolve, taking a value of alchemical symbols and visions. The images are formed by a dark and shadowy background. The subjects are women, for example, details of the body, things.
In the early eighties he was a leading figure in the group of Anacronisti and Magico Primario. He has participated in three editions of the Venice Biennale, and in that of 1984 he had a solo exhibition in "Art in the mirror".
Also in the eighties he participated at Biennale of Sao Paulo, Brazil and at twelfth Biennale of Paris. He has exhibited at Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, Kyoto, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, at the Hayward Gallery in London, two editions of the Quadrennial in Rome, at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Bologna, at the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna in Rome, also in Frankfurt and Berlin.
In the nineties his work was exhibited at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts of Arizona, the Marian Locks, Philadelphia and the Arnold Herstand Gallery, New York. He has also presented Feminine countenances at New York University in 2000 and the Golden Museum of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. He exhibited at the Palazzo delle Stelline in Milan, the Galleria Civica di Modena, the Museum of Modern Art in Budapest, at the Palacio Foz in Lisbon, at the PAC in Milan.
In 2003 he was invited at the Prague Biennale and at the first edition of Beijing, where he won first prize with three major works of the New Cycle anatomy.
In 2005 the State Archives of Turin, as part of the exhibition “Grande Disegno Italiano”, a drawing, (5x6.3 meters) graphite on poplar, was confronted with the face of the angel of Leonardo, in preparation for the Virgin of the rocks exposed at the Royal Library. At Palazzo Magnani in Reggio Emilia he presented the "new anatomy". In 2005 the Museum of Contemporary Art in Guadalajara (Mexico) has opened a solo entitled “Nuovi fiori nuovi santi” and Space Mazzotta in Milan presented “La figlia era nuda”.
The exibition "Italian Design" of 2006 has turned China into the most important museums of modern and contemporary art such as Shanghai, Chengdu, Jinan, Xian, Wuhan, Hangzhou, to get to Beijing. Also in 2006 the University and the Museum of Caracas hosted a solo titled "draw," then passed to the Hassan Museum in Rabat.
In 2007 the exhibition “Tra Oriente e Occidente” and the presence at the side of the 52nd Venice Biennale. at the Fondazione Querini Stampalia.
In 2009 he took part in the collective "Dètournemen" in the ancient Hospice of San Lorenzo, a fringe event at the 53 Biennial and the Diocesan Museum of St Apollonia “Santa Apollonia Omar Galliani e qualche dente di Andy Warhol”. In October, the Art Gallery Dep devotes a large retrospective tribute. Italian Institute of Culture in Bogota (Colombia) was held by a personal title 21 Dibuyos a por noche in Bogota.
The year 2010 opened with an exhibition at the Museum Borges in Buenos Aires which will then be hosted by 4 other museums in Argentina, and in 2011, by Brazilian institutions. In 2011 a portrait of Russia through portraits of women, work in progress is the installation "The Other Side of Russia. The face and the soul ", created by Omar Galliani, in conjunction with the 54th Venice Biennale 2011 at the Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto. The exhibition was exhibited at the K35 Art Gallery Moscow.
On 2012 the collaboration with Les Copains with paintings by Omar Galliani printed in the shirts in limited numbers. Also "La pelle del disegno" for Les Copains, by Mazzotta Art Selection, Milan. The box is an edition of 792 numbered copies and 50 not numbered, stamped by Omar Galliani with Les Copains and Mazzotta Art Selection. The cover was taken from the opera "Soltanto rose".
In 2012 from February 4 to Punta del Este in Uruguay at the Foundation Atchuguarry "Nocturno" and in Brazil as part of cultural exchanges with Italy.
From 14/03 to 06/05/2012 Omar Galliani to Rome at the Museo Carlo Bilotti in Villa Borghese. Among the exhibited works, the artist shows “Quante notti a Roma”, his visionary tribute to Rome and the Colosseum, a work created for this occasion, which will be accompanied by a number of preparatory drawings, which illustrate the complex creative process of his work.
Again in Rome to 8/06/12 the exibition "Omar Galliani - Altre notti a Roma" at Artribu.
From 14/09 to 07/10/2012 "The Male, the Female, the Sacred: Omar galliani in dialogue with the drawing tradition". Cafa Art Museum, Room 3/A, Beijing.
On 2013 from 30/05 to 30/09 the exhibition "Omar Galliani. Il sogno della Principessa Lyu Ji al Florian", Venice Chinese Room of the Cafe Florian, Piazza San Marco.
